Breakspear Medical Group's Immunisation Department offers the individual vaccinations for measles and rubella and other mercury-free (thiomersal-free) immunisations because we believe you should have the right to choose what is best for you and your child. (Please note: the combined MMR vaccine is also mercury-free.)

We started providing the alternative to the combined MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine when the combined vaccination was first introduced in 1988.

Important note (November 2009): Although we have an uninterrupted supply of rubella and measles vaccines, recently we were shocked to learn that Merck has decided not to resume production of their single vaccines for mumps (MUMPSVAX). Merck was the only manufacturer of a single mumps vaccine that had a proven record of safety and efficacy. More information about the mumps vaccine shortage and how it affects you...

At Breakspear, we believe that it is extremely important for children to have protection through immunisation, and we fear that parents may choose not to immunise their children at all if they can not obtain single vaccines. We continue to offer separate immunisations for measles and rubella, which are readily available from reputable manufacturers, as we believe that parents should be able to choose.

We can provide and administer the separate measles and rubella vaccinations at suitable intervals; all you have to do is book an appointment by simply calling our Immunisation Department appointment line at 01442 261 333 and select Option 1. You do not need an NHS referral or medical insurance.

We guarantee that all our vaccinations are supplied only by internationally-recognised, reputable European and American companies and will be administered by a member of our specialist medical team.

We are currently recommending measles as the first vaccination, followed by rubella.  However, when you are booking your first appointment, you may wish to discuss the best sequence of vaccinations, which may vary with your place of residence.

We also offer measles and rubella booster shots. It is recommended that personnel working in health care and girls in their early teens, who have been advised to have a rubella booster, consider having the individual rubella vaccine. (The NHS offers only the 3 in 1 MMR vaccine.)

Charges for individual vaccines are payable on the day of the appointment. Measles and

rubella vaccinations are £90 each.  We accept cash, debit card or credit card.

If you suspect that you/your child has a sensitivity or reaction to eggs, it is best to embark on a milk and/or egg desensitising programme prior to receiving the single vaccinations of measles and rubella.
