Nutritional and Environmental Medicine
Resident Medical Officer
Applicants are invited for the post of RMO at Breakspear Hospital, in Hemel Hempstead. Breakspear Hospital is the only registered facility in the United Kingdom specialising in the management of environmental illnesses. Major conditions treated at Breakspear Hospital include Allergy, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, Autistic Spectrum Disorders and autonomic dysfunction associated with other medical disorders.
We seek a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who wishes to expand his or her horizons within clinical medicine with an emphasis on integrated health care.
The applicant must have had previous exposure to, or a continuing interest in nutritional and functional medicine, but prior clinical experience within this field is not required. Qualifications within this field would be welcomed but are not a requirement.
Suitable applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and should have completed a minimum of 1-2 years of post graduate training in any general medical (inc. paediatric) specialty. Applicants with higher qualifications are also invited to apply and suitability will be discussed on a case by case basis.
An extensive training in environmental medicine will be provided and the successful candidate will be expected to attend clinical courses for registration with the British Society of Ecological Medicine. Career development within Breakspear Hospital is encouraged following clinical experience and specialist registration within the field.
Clinical duties will include:
- Daily ward round of patients attending the day hospital
- Liaison between clinical services to facilitate patient care
- Commence patients on treatment after clinic review
- Support outpatients' clinical services
You will be expected to partake in:
- Audit and research being undertaken at Breakspear hospital
- Regular CME meetings
- Clinical appraisal for revalidation and relicensing procedures
Applications are invited for an initial 12 month post commencing at a mutually agreed date within two months after interview. Extension of employment contract to permanent post is subject to review after 12 months.
Working hours are weekdays 8.45am to 5pm and Saturday 9-5pm as per rota.
This is a full-time post and we require a minimum of 8 sessions during the week and participation in a Saturday clinical rota.
The basic salary will be between £30,000 and 40,000 per annum.
